This motorcycle has been a reliable commuter for me for the past 5000 miles. It has plenty of power for freeway cruising and is small and easy to handle for beginners. It has some good upgrades and recent maintenance done. Time to sell it to work on other projects.
Mechanically, this motorcycle is solid. I recently did a lot of maintenance work to make sure it will go far before you need to do anything to it.
Adjusted valves
Synchronized carburetors
Installed a new air filter
Performed the FOG mod (look it up on EX-500.com -- makes a huge difference)
Flushed all fluids
Rebuilt fork
Installed tapered roller steering bearings
New wheel bearings
Installed a new battery
Installed new tires -- Bridgestone Battlax BT45 (the front has about 5000 miles on it with a few thousand more to go; rear has less than 1000 miles on it)
90 degree angled tire valve stems for easier pressure checking and air filling
New thermostatic fan switch
Givi Tanklock adapter mounted on gas tank to accept luggage
Heated grips (one heat setting, on/off switch)
Less than 500 miles on the last oil change
The chain and sprockets are in good condition and don't need to be replaced anytime soon. The brake lines are upgraded braided stainless steel, front and rear. The front brake rotor is upgraded to the fully floating EBC rotor (very expensive part). The brake pads are EBC HH sintered, front and rear, with lots of life left. The gas tank is clean and rust-free.
All the features on this motorcycle work: lights, horn, blinkers, all locks (one key does all the locks), levers, fuel petcock, etc.
Cosmetically, this bike is fine. You can tell that it spent most of its life parked outdoors because the paint is faded (looks pretty decent with a fresh coat of wax) and rubbed off in some places. There are some cracks in the fairings that have all been repaired with a plastic welder. The exhaust header is rusty. The black finish on some aluminum parts is flaking off. The seat is in great condition with no rips.
It has been dropped at least twice -- once on each side -- both at low speed. You can see some scuff marks on the exhaust and fairings in the photos.
